Kyung Hee’s aggressive recruitment efforts and support programs in the pursuit of scholarship, research and practice, the core values of the University, have been translated into a substantial qualitative upswing in the latest university rankings.
In 2016 QS World University Rankings Kyung Hee is ranked at 264th, moved up 31 spots from the previous year, and in Korea Kyung Hee is ranked at 6th among universities. In 2016 Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings Kyung Hee is ranked at 362nd, moved up 68 spots from the previous year, and in Korea the University is ranked 5th overall. Kyung Hee is also ranked at 25th in the category of Asia’s Most Innovative Universities by Reuters.
Highest growth rate among top 10 national universities
In 2016 QS World University Rankings Kyung Hee jumped 26 spots in Faculty/Student ratio at 143rd and 62 spots in Employer Reputation at 159th. It is also remarkable that Kyung Hee University in 2016 gained the most rank among the top ten national universities.
Kyung Hee has been receiving consistently high marks in recent QS World University Rankings. Since breaching the top 200 in 2011, Kyung Hee has been steadily climbing the rankings. In particular, Employer Reputation, an important evaluative indicator of Kyung Hee students’ job performance, has made a substantial improvement from 225th in 2014 to 159th in 2016, making a leap of 66 ranks in two years. Academic Reputation and International Students also gained 16 and 7 spots respectively, reaching 369th and 359th in the world.
The QS World University Rankings is managed by U.K. evaluation institution Quacquarelli Symonds that evaluates universities in the world based on six criteria: Academic Reputation (40%), Faculty/Student (20%), Citations per Professor (20%), Employer Reputation (10%), International Student (5%), and International Staff (5%). This year the survey included 3,800 universities.
2016 THE Rankings: Kyung Hee’s research capability rose by 86 spots
In 2016 Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings Kyung Hee is ranked at 362nd globally and 5th overall nationally with a remarkable jump in Research and Citations. Research is up by 7.9 points and Citations by 9.3 points, which resulted in the overall research capability rated at 215th (86 spots higher than the previous year).
A familiar pattern is also evidenced in the THE Rankings: among the 11 Korean universities that made the top global 500 Kyung Hee University shows the highest rate of growth in rank. Citations, in particular, is up by 14 spots at 488th; Teaching gained 2.4 points (up 28 spots at 394th), and International Outlook gained 5.1 points (up 10 spots at 379th).
Conducted by U.K. evaluation institution Times Higher Education, the THE World University Rankings evaluate universities in five criteria by 13 indices: Citations (30%), Research (30%), Teaching (30%), International Outlook (7.5%) and Industry Income (2.5%).
Ranked 25th in Reuters Asia’s Most Innovative Universities
Kyung Hee University also received favorable evaluation for its research capability, especially the quality of patents filed. Reuters’ rank is based on the Intellectual Property and Science data compiled by Thomson Reuters. The criteria include: academic papers, patent volume, patent success, global patents, patent citations, patent citation impact, and so on. In Reuters Ranking, Kyung Hee filed 199 global patents between 2009 and 2014 with a patent success rate of 76.9%.
