National Research Centers

Project Outline

The purpose of the major research projects is to cultivate outstanding research centers to transform Kyung Hee University into a research-oriented university. The current government is conducting a research-based growth policy by supporting a balanced system of top-down/planned large-scale basic research and bottom-up/voluntary large-scale research. Kyung Hee University is affirming its status as a world-class institution in basic and combined sciences with 14 major projects (five on the Seoul Campus and nine on the Global Campus).

Project Information

Reactive Oxygen Species Medical Research Center (MRC)
Goals
  • To cultivate outstanding researchers in basic medicine and to develop systematic research on reactive oxygen
  • To contribute to public health by developing treatments for diseases related to reactive oxygen
  • To grow into a world-class basic medicine research center
Researchers
  • Director : Professor Sung Soo Kim (College of Medicine, Kyung Hee University)
  • Section 1-1 : Professor Sung Soo Kim (College of Medicine, Kyung Hee University)
  • Section 1-2 : Professor Joo Hun Ha (College of Medicine, Kyung Hee University)
  • Section 2-1 : Professor Young Wuk Cho (College of Medicine, Kyung Hee University)
  • Section 2-2 : Professor Berm Seok Oh (College of Medicine, Kyung Hee University)
Acupuncture and Meridian Science Research Center (SRC)
Goals
  • Many countries are currently focusing their efforts on researching the effectiveness and generation of the effects of acupuncture and meridian therapy that were developed systematically and experientially in Korea. However, due to the lack of infrastructure, Korea is on the brink of losing its advantage in this area to China, Japan, and Western countries. Therefore, the goals of the Acupuncture and Meridian Science Research center are:
    To create a "third medicine" that combines traditional medical science theories with cutting-edge medical technologies and medical imaging;
    To define the control mechanisms for the effects of acupuncture and to develop new treatment methods through cooperative research in acupuncture and meridian therapy, brain imaging, neurobiology, molecular biology, genomics, and proteomics;
    and to bring together researchers from various fields and disciplines to offer new directions in acupuncture and meridian science and to present a new paradigm of meridian therapy through research on the system of signal transmissions within the human body.
Researchers

  • Section Control 3 : Professor Joo-Ho Chung (College of Medicine, Kyung Hee University)
  • Section Control 4 : Professor Bae Hwan Lee (College of Medicine, Yonsei University)
Cancer Preventive Material Development Research Center (MRC)
Goals
  • To develop traditional Korean medicine as an "evidence-based basic medical science" by building outstanding Oriental medicine research infrastructure
  • To cultivate international competitiveness by developing Oriental medicine treatments and preventative measures for cancer

Neurodegeneration Control Research Center (SRC)
Goals
  • To develop original technologies that will raise the function of nerves and protect nerve cells by defining the interactive network and control mechanism of neurodegeneration from a comprehensive perspective of nerve cells, neuroglial cells, and organelles.

Research Center for Tooth and Periodontal Tissue Regeneration (MRC)
Goals
  • To define pathophysiological, immunological, and regenerative processes of tooth and periodontal damage through comprehensive research in tooth and periodontal tissue regeneration
  • To secure original technologies through developing target molecules, lead compounds, and biomaterials
  • To advance the center as a leader in tooth and periodontal tissue regeneration and cultivate researchers in basic dental science
